Wasn’t Just Single — I Was Free.

What Freedom Means to Me — From Fierce Independence to Sustainable Support

🧠 They Called Me Independent — I Called It Survival

I’ve been called independent a lot throughout my life. People said it like a compliment — like, “Wow, look at you doing all the things on your own.” But sometimes, independence isn’t empowerment. Sometimes, it’s survival.

I was single, self-sufficient, and solid. I traveled solo. I purchased a business. I lived my life without consulting anyone.

And underneath all that hustle? I was burned out, quietly unraveling, and still performing. I was just really good at pretending.

I lived in “Everything’s great!” mode for a long time — mostly because asking for help felt like weakness. I chose independence because I didn’t want to be disappointed. Because it gave me control.

It took me a long time to admit that I wanted help — or even deserved it. Because somewhere along the way, I learned it was better to figure it out alone.

✈️ Travel Was My Gateway to Real Freedom

Travel was the first place I felt like me again. It didn’t fix everything, but it opened something — a door, a part of me I had lost in the noise.

I used to hop on a plane every time I felt stuck — like if I could just change my scenery, I could change my story. It worked… until it didn’t.

I got tired of telling the same narrative: “work is fine,” “I’m good,” “just busy.” I wanted something deeper. I didn’t want to run away anymore — I wanted to reconnect.

  • Pilates gave me physical freedom.

  • Coaching gave me mental freedom.

  • Travel gave me soul-level space.

Real freedom isn’t about running. It’s about choosing.

🔁 💡 Freedom Now Looks Like…

  • Asking for help when I need it

  • Letting my body rest without guilt

  • Moving for strength, not punishment

  • Building a life I don’t need to escape from

  • Teaching others how to do the same

🖤 On Juneteenth, Let’s Talk About Freedom — Not Just Ours

Juneteenth reminds me that freedom isn’t universal — and it hasn’t been earned equally.

It’s a time to listen more than we speak. To witness other people’s stories. To honor the ways we are different and still stand together.

You don’t have to understand someone’s entire life to offer kindness. You just have to listen.

So this week, do this:

  • Pause before reacting

  • Choose empathy over opinion

  • Remember: freedom for one means fighting for freedom for all
