Booked the Flight — And Everything Changed: How Solo Travel Sparked My Reset

I didn’t go to Aruba to find myself.
I went to get away.
From the noise. From the pressure. From me.
I was 35. I was deep in the middle of a quiet unraveling. I had just enrolled in a Master’s program for Healthcare Administration because it felt practical. At the same time, I was working in a nursing home that drained my spirit. My body ached. My relationships were suffering. I relied on alcohol to numb the pain. I was the heaviest I had been in years—inside and out.
Everyone asked, “You’re going alone? Is it safe?”
I booked the flight anyway.
Deep down, I wasn’t just running away from my life.
I was running toward something—even if I didn’t know what it was yet.
🧠 The 7-Year Shift
Seven-year cycles have been recognized by cultures worldwide for millennia. If you follow Human Design or Gene Keys, you may have read about them.
“The notion of time and your response or reaction to its passing is rooted profoundly in the 42nd Gene Key, which closes all natural life cycles, particularly the seven-year cycle of growth and decay.”
I have Gate 42 in both my Sun and Mars placements. It’s also my Brand and Emotional Quotient (EQ) in the Gene Keys. So yes, I’ve felt this deeply.
That trip to Aruba marked the end of one cycle and the start of a messy, beautiful new one.
The Journey Towards Healing
I didn’t return home healed.
Instead, I came home curious.
That curiosity led me back to my body:
To deeper meditation.
To more movement.
To therapy.
To better food choices.
To letting go of jobs, people, and habits that weren’t aligned with who I wanted to be.
I lost 15–20 pounds in a healthy way. I began remembering who I truly was. This transformation also led to the next passport stamp, and the one after that.
I traveled to Puerto Rico, Germany, Iceland, Thailand, and Colombia.
One solo trip each year became my new norm. My nervous system didn’t just calm; it reset.
💛 Why I Tell You This
I understand how it feels to burn out.
To feel trapped in a body and a life that don’t feel like yours.
To crave change while having no idea where to start.
Yet, I also know what happens when you give yourself space.
When you stop waiting and begin moving—one decision, one flight, one breath at a time.
The Importance of Self-Care
It’s essential to prioritize yourself in this chaotic world.
We often neglect our needs, thinking there will be time later.
But the truth is, self-care isn't a luxury; it’s a necessity.
Investing in your well-being can shift everything. It can allow you to experience life from a place of joy and empowerment.
